Velarde was also instrumental in producing corporate-sponsored Hispanic Cultural Music Events in the San Fernando Valley.
In 1981, Jimmy A Velarde found himself as assistant tour manager for blues icons Buddy Guy and the late harmonica man, Junior Wells while opening for the Rolling Stones. This was followed up by Blues Revival Festivals with legends Big Mama Thornton, Big Jay McNeely, Joe Houston, and Koko Taylor to name a few. In 1989, Jimmy’s desire for network experience saw him attain a staff position as a cameraman with CBS-TV City in Los Angeles.
Throughout his long and illustrious career at CBS, Jimmy A Velarde worked on many iconic shows such as The Carol Burnett Show, Redd Foxx Special, Real Time with Bill Maher, Late, Late Show with James Corden, Survivor, CBS Sports, The Rose Parade, Hollywood Bowl with John Williams, and The LA Marathon. On the personal request of Sir Paul McCartney, the band quickly finds themselves opening for The Beatles on a two-week U.S. tour that begins at Shea Stadium and culminates at The Hollywood Bowl. The band begins at Lincoln High School and is discovered and nurtured by Rampart Records label founder Eddie Davis, who plows the profits from his successful restaurants into championing Mexican American musicians and singers and their pioneering "East Side Sound."
Jimmy Adrian Velarde’s previous work includes Confessions, a movie about an angel who is banished from heaven after committing a sin and must roam the earth until fulfilling his penance, which is to compel sinners to carry out a penance of their own. Jimmy served as the Producer and Director of Photography for the project while it was written, produced, and directed by Evette Vargas. A Proof of Concept trailer of the movie has been made available on Vimeo.
